Brief Description: A large proportion of the collection consists of records of the Freeland League and relates to its colonization projects. There are some materials relating to the Left Socialist Revolutionary Party as well as private and family correspondence and personal papers.      Files of the Freeland League office, New York, 1944-1948:  correspondence and other materials, minutes of meetings, 1947-1948.  Freeland League records, London, 1937-1940. Miscellaneous materials of the Freeland League, 1938-1961:  clippings, diaries, notices.  Records of the Refugee Freeland League in Austria, 1947-1951.  Materials pertaining to efforts to establish Jewish settlements in Australia, 1938-1955, including the Kimberley Project and the Queensland, Tasmania and Melville Island plans. Materials on various geographical locations which were considered for colonization, including Surinam.   Correspondence of Dr. Steinberg and the Freeland League with organizations, libraries, publishers, 1923-1963, some relating to the publications *Oyfn shvel* and *Freeland*. Correspondence with individuals including Angelica Balabanoff, Ben-Adir, Ernest Bevin, Nathan Birnbaum, Winston Churchill, Josef Czernichow, Anthony de Rothschild, Edmond de Rothschild, Emma Goldman, Jacob Gordin, Fiorello La Guardia, H. Leivick, Itzik Manger, Joseph Proskauer, Eleanor Roosevelt, Baruch Charney Vladeck.      Materials pertaining to the Left Socialist Revolutionary Party and the Russian Revolution of 1917. Manuscripts, typescripts of books, dramas and essays by Dr. Steinberg and other writers.  Notes and manuscript of *Memoirs of a People's Commissar*.  Manuscript, notes and source materials for Steinberg's books on Maria Spiridonova, *Der Dornenweg*, *In the Workshop of the Revolution*. Published articles, party statement and resolution, 1918-1920, relating to the Left Socialist Revolutionary Party.  Materials relating to individual party members, correspondence, communications with imprisoned and deported party members, photographs of exiled party members.      Materials on Steinberg's visit to South Africa, 1936-1937, on behalf of YIVO.  Manuscripts of Steinberg's writings on various topics.  Manuscripts by other authors.
