Pen name of Joseph Meir Opatowsky.  Yiddish novelist and short story writer.  His best known work is *In poylishe velder* (In the Polish Woods), written in 1921 as the first volume of a trilogy.  Was on the staff of *The Day* for 40 years.  Born near Mlawa, Poland. Immigrated to the U.S. in 1907.
