Born in Sopotkin, Grodno region. Legal family name was Kleinbort. In 1929 he settled in Palestine, and in 1934, in Paris. Reported on the Spanish Civil War for Yiddish newspapers. After leaving Nazi-occupied France, he settled in Uruguay. In 1946 he settled in New York, where he served as Editorial Secretary for the Labor Zionist weekly, *Yidisher kemfer*. Ayalti was primarily a novelist and short story writer. Most of his writings were in Yiddish, but a substantial portion was in Hebrew. He died in 1992 in New York.
