Brief Description: The collection consists of correspondence, memoranda, minutes of meetings, reports, affidavits, lists, printed materials relating to the activities of the Personal Service Department, 1946-54. The collection contains 1,899 files. The original materials were destroyed after microfilming. The collection is divided into the following series: 1. Individual cases: correspondence with individuals and their relatives, other organizations to which AJDC referred cases, including USNA (United Service for New Americans) and HIAS; reports on location of relatives, landsmanshaftn, and files on medical matters. 2. Migration material arranged by countries: includes material on Argentina, 1951-52; Australia, 1950-51; Germany, 1950-52; Israel, 1950-52. 3. General migration material, 1947-54: includes minutes and other material of the American Council of Voluntary Agencies for Foreign Service; files on the following topics: immigration under the DP Act, 1951-52; emigration, 1952-54; relations with the HIAS, McCarran Immigration Act, 1952-53; migration, 1951-52; President's Escape Program, Provisional Intergovernmental Committee for the Movement of Migrants from Europe, 1952; United Service for New Americans, 1950-53; lists of communities restricted to refugees; memoranda of European AJDC Emigration Headquarters, 1950-52; *Immigration Policy, Statement of Position by Major Religious, Civic, and Nationality Organizations by Committe to Improve U.S. Immigration Law*; memoranda of International Tracing Service, 1953. 4.
