Born in 1909. Started out as a businessman, but obtained a doctorate with his history of the Yiddish theater in America. Taught in various colleges. He was also a playwright and novelist in English as well as a stage director. He was the compiler of an anthology of Yiddish plays in English translation. Lifson died in 1996 in New York
