*GERMANY*. 16th c. - 1950s.

*GERMANY 1*: 16th c. - 1932, 1946 - 1950s.  The collection is comprised of communal records, family papers, government documents, records of Jewish organizations, business papers.      Records of Jewish communities in Germany are derived from the communities of Altona, Amberg, Moisling-Lubeck, Thairnbach (Baden), Viereth (Bavaria), Bad Homburg, Gottingen, Brieg (Pol. Brzeg), Breslau (Pol. Wroclaw), Frankfurt am Main, Sulzbach (Bavaria), Berlin.  Noteworthy are: *pinkasim* and minute books from: Altona, 1763-1939; Moisling-Lubeck, 1806-1890; Viereth, 1785-1888; *schutzbrief*  (residence permit) by King Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia to 47 Jewish families who wished to settle in Neumark, 1717.  Administrative records of the Jewish community of Breslau, 1903-1936.      Family papers include correspondence, personal and business documents, and memorabilia of the following families: Dreifuss of Malsch (Baden), 1893-1940;  Marx Isaac Kulp of Frankfurt am Main, 1838-1856; Bernheimer of Buttenhausen, 1828-1861.      Noteworthy among the records of Jewish organizations, are materials from the archives of the Hilfsverein der Deutschen Juden which pertain mainly to Jewish emigration, 1904=1926. Included are annual reports, 1904-1913; correspondence between the Hilfsverein and the United Evacuation Committee in Paris, 1925-1926; correspondence to Rabbi Chaim Oyzer Grodzienski, Vilna.

*GERMANY 2*, 1933-1945. Documents, reports, printed matter, clippings relating to Jewish life under Nazi rule and to Nazi anti-Jewish policies and acts. Reports of various branches of Nazi administration pertaining to racial policies and laws. Nazi propaganda materials. Accounts about Kristallnacht. Biographical materials about Nazi leaders such as: personal documents (copies) of Adolf Hitler; press transcripts of Hitler's speeches; recorded speech by Heinrich Himmler, October 1943; diaries of General Franz Halder; clippings about Rudolf Hess. Materials arranged by locality (including concentration camps) are: Auschwitz, Bergen-Belsen, Berlin, Breslau, Buchenwald, Dachau, Flossenburg, Frankfurt am Main, Friedland, Fulda, Gusen, Hamburg, Ravensbruck, Sachsenhausen, Schomberg, Ulm. Materials relating to war crimes trials, 1945-1970s.
