Administrative/Biographical History
Major Yiddish poet, novelist, essayist. Contributed to various periodicals including *Der tog* (Vilna), *Morgn zhurnal* (New York), *Goldene keyt* (Tel Aviv). Important member of the Yiddish literary group "Yung vilne" in Poland before World War II. Recipient of many literary awards as well as honorary degrees from several Jewish universities in the U.S. Born in Vilna. Settled in New York in 1948.
