Administrative/Biographical History
Born in 1884 in Toloshin. Active in the Zionist Socialist Party and in its self-defense groups. Studied pedagogy. Visited Palestine in 1911. Settled in Warsaw, where he became one of the founders of the Yiddish secular school movement. Settled in New York in 1915, and, after 1918, devoted himself exclusively to Yiddish education and culture. He became a pioneering teacher, administrator, and curriculum developer of the Workmen's Circle schools. He also founded summer camps, including Camp Kinderland and Camp Naivelt. He wrote textbooks and many articles. Died in 1958
