Maurice Moishe Rauch was born in 1910 in Anikat near Kovno. He was brought to the U.S. in the same year. He studied composition with Nadia Boulanger. He worked in the Yiddish theater as a composer and conductor since his student days. For 35 years he led the Jewish Music Alliance. He composed many works, including cantatas on Jewish and Yiddish literary themes. Died in New York in 1994.                                                                        Lillian Shapero, who was Rauch's wife, was born in 1908 in New York. She was a member of Martha Graham's original troupe (1929-1935) as a dancer and assistant choreographer. From 1932 to 1952 she was the choreographer of Maurice Schwartz's Yiddish Art Theater, and led her own troupe from 1935-1939. She was also a teacher of dance and choreographed several dances to her husband's compositions. Died in 1988 in New York
