Administrative/Biographical History

Founded in 1890 in New York by German-speaking immigrants. The name was originally the Progressive Welfare Society; it merged with the Progress Lodge #38 Brith Abraham and took the latter's name in 1939. The society provided illness and death benefits as well as subsidized burial at the Mt. Hebron and Beth David cemeteries.
