Yiddish journalist. Contributed to several periodicals including the Yidishe velt (Philadelphia), Forverts (Chicago and N.Y.), Naye velt, Veker, Fraynd, and the Freie Arbeiter Stimme. Noted for his human interest stories and articles about prominent people and important institutions. Translated to Yiddish Bartolomeo Vanzetti’s The Story of a Proletariat Life (published by the Sacco-Vanzetti Defense Committee) as Di geshikhte fun an arbeyters leben (Boston, 1923). Born in Jagielnica, Poland on October 13, 1895. Studied in heder and later in gymnasium. Immigrated to the United States in 1913. Active in the Socialist Party. Became a journalist in c. 1919. Died in New York on September 22, 1973.

Description: The collection relates to Samuel Regensberg's career as a journalist for several newspapers, including the Yidishe velt (Philadelphia), Forverts (Chicago and N.Y.), Naye velt, Veker, Fraynd, and the Freie Arbeiter Stimme. The collection is mainly comprised of correspondence, printed materials (newspaper clippings, announcements, flyers, notes, typescripts), photographs, and memorabilia (press passes, membership cards, awards and certificates). The collection consists of correspondence with over 200 prominent figures and laypersons. Correspondents include A. Flanagan, Felix Frankfurter, Sam Levenson, Meyer Levin, Hillel Rogoff, Eleanor Roosevelt, Billy Rose, Leo Rosten, Maurice Samuel, Irving Stone, Sophie Tucker, Max Weinreich, 1926-1974. Correspondence with organizations and institutions, including the American Jewish Archives, American ORT Federation, B'nai Brith, Boys Town, N.E., Columbia Univ., the Federation of Jewish Charities of Philadelphia, the Jewish Agency for Palestine, the Jewish Guild for the Blind, the Jewish Labor Committee, Harvard Univ., HIAS, New York Univ., the Socialist Party, Manhattan, Temple Univ., Univ. of Michigan, Univ. of Pennsylvania, the World Federation of Polish Jews, Yale Univ., Yeshiva Univ., the Zionist Organization of America.
